Blogging
Over the last few years we have seen
the rise of blogging in every walk of internet life. A blog is
best described as an online diary, it can be on any subject,
it can be personal or commercial, but no matter what the subject,
one thing is for certain, Google loves them!
The great advantage of blogging is that your thoughts/conversations/information
can be in the top ten at Google within hours or even minutes!
A web page can rank in Google in a few short days, but blogs
are the silver bullet of the search engine world and can show
very highly in a very short space of time.
The downside is that they don't keep those positions for very
long, they tend to peak quite quickly and then start a slow descent
into the void, unless, of course, they have an important or controversial
message or subject that attracts lots of links from other web
sites.
The majority of bogs are one person's thoughts, views and
opinions of a particular subject, or even a rant against any
injustice they feel needs to be addressed. It has to be said
that most blogs are of no real value to the sum of mankind's
knowledge, just one person's take on life. But the beauty of
a blog is that anyone, big or small, rich or poor, famous or
unknown can broadcast their thoughts across the web. Most blogs
are free, so all one needs is a connection to the web and you
are in business.
Blogging has also become a standard
feature of most online news portals where a story or editorial
can be posted and the general public invited to comment. This
has given rise to another marketing technique known as link-baiting,
this involves greating something unique or controversial that
will attract others to link to the site.
A business can gain an advatage on the web if it has a blog,
new products or services, in-depth information on products and
comapany news and events can all benefit a firm that wishes to
promote itself on the web. In fact it is becoming a vital part
of most big companies online marketing.
